BURNING MAN 2012
After a series of Unfortunate Events, my Magic Man and I have returned from the desert. Aside from our National Lampoon’s trip home (which included dying fuel pumps and exploding sewer tanks) our Burning Man excursion was pretty great.
My favorite thing:
The Elvis Espresso people. They were a camp of people from Italy. Every morning they dressed in Elvis-wear and served espresso spiked with plum liqueur. Trust me—it was delicious. And they were lovely.
My least favorite thing:
The dust, but even that wasn’t as bad as it could have been. At least that’s what I’m telling myself.
And the rest…
I’ve shamelessly filched a few photos to show you.
This is a detail of our camp:

Not much happens in our camp, except hanging out and socializing. However, we have this really awesome wheel of destiny (you get strapped in and are rolled up and down the desert) as well as a hot air balloon that’s taken out on clear early mornings.
I sat around in camp a fair bit this year. I plotted the next Laurel Heights book, and I read some. All the other kids looked at me like I was a nerd for reading, but I didn’t care. I think they were just jealous.
I also tangoed a whole lot. There’s something magical about tangoing in the middle of a great desert. I even got asked to help teach a beginner’s class:

That’s me dancing.
While I tangoed, my Magic Man showed his true colors.

I love that face.
Most days, I was low-key. I…
- biked around
- drank tropical drinks in tiki bars
- was accosted by the tequila fairy
- ate ice cream
- napped
At night, I did more of the same, with friends. Sometimes we explored our animalistic selves…

Sometimes we were just happy and playful:

But we always had fun.
How was your couple weeks? Anything exciting going on in your world? Any exploding sewer tanks?
By day, I write. About all sorts of things, like cupcakes and women who kick ass. I write about love because love is the most important thing in the world...
